But the styles for photography have always been, and will always be, a wide range. The thing is . . . unless you’re a photographer yourself, you’ve probably never thought much about the different syles. Heck, when we first started taking photos, even we had no clue what mold we exactly wanted to fit in, or even what the terms for the different looks were (light & airy, moody, film-inspired, etc.).
As a bride, choosing the photographer to document this milestone goes beyond a personal connection, good reviews, and a matching budget – it’s crucial that you choose someone who captures images in a style you personally feel will withstand the trends and make your heart skip a beat for years and years to come.
To start, a fool-proof trick is using something we all have easy access to – something we’ve been doing without even realizing . . . utlizing Instagram! Remember that little ‘bookmark’ option that rolled out not too long ago? Now is it’s time to shine!
Make a folder dedicated solely to wedding photography, and head on over to IG’s that feature weddings and engagements – blogs, magazines, popular photographers, etc.! Every time you see a photo that speaks to you, tap that little bookmark button to save it for later. Once you’ve looked through dozens of images, you’ll have developed a little feed of dream photos – and your preferred style will be clear as day.
Are you a trend-setter or prefer the timeless? Do you love those dreamy, magazine-like images with every detailed styled out, or do you prefer a documentary approach? Maybe both! Ask yourself these questions to officially decide what style is right for you! While you may find yourself drawn to dark & moody images, you might also want something that won’t lose its luster when the trends shift. Or maybe you like light & airy, but find some light and airy categorized photographs to be a little too washed out, and prefer a photographer who approaches photos with a clean, bright, and timeless appearance. Make a checklist of what your priorities look like and compare those ‘yes‘ and ‘no”s to potential photographers.
When you’re close to making your decision, go with the photographer who checks off every category on your list – having clear expectations will be in the best interest of both you and your photographer, to ensure that you are over-the-moon with the results!
Hope this helps, and happy booking!
