Every Bride Considers a Sparkler Exit

On Pinterest, they’re all the rage – sparkler exits are an exciting way to have a grand send-off at the end of your wedding day . . . they’re bright, magical, and like mini fireworks you can hold. I mean, we totally see the appeal! If you’re looking for a little way to add some extra flair to your wedding night, a sparkler exit is the perfect solution.

A ‘controlled‘ exit is definitely the way to go

In our years as New Jersey wedding photographers, one of the big lessons we’ve learned is how important a ‘controlled’ sparkler exit is. Imagine this – it’s 11pm and 175 of your closest family and friends have been drinking for the past 5 hours; they’re all super hyped and the energy is booming from dancing all night . . . then you hand everyone little sticks of fire.

If we’re being honest, sparkler exits are a little scary. In fact, we talk about them in our wedding day timeline blog post. Everyone is loaded with flammable hair product and tulle-loaded dresses, and we’re dodging those waving fire wands left and right. The solution? A controlled exit!

Here’s how to execute the perfect sparkler exit :

About 40 minutes before the last dance (think right after cake!), gather your bridal party and closest family and friends – think about 15-20 people. Ask an employee of your venue to come out and pass out/light the sparklers and we’ll get everyone lined up in a way that sets the perfect path for your ‘exit’. Then? Your venue employee will signal you to come on out and we’ll snap away, have you stop and kiss as everyone cheers you on, and maybe have you run through once more for good measure. We’ll get the perfect shot, and you’ll all head back in and enjoy the rest of the night! Best part? Now your DJ won’t have to cut the night short to send out all of your guests, just to try organizing everyone for 20 minutes for half the sparklers to have burnt out by the time you come through. Controlled is way better!
